Can you take geometry over the summer

Students have been learning the logic and processes needed for Algebra since elementary school. Geometry requires additional types of logic and thought processes that few students have encountered before.

That may change if schools continue to follow the Common Core; however, for students approaching Geometry now , there are several very important details you should consider before enrolling the child in a summer Geometry course meant to replace the full year school curriculum.

My first advice when students ask this question is to talk to their teachers. Ask the person in charge of the summer Geometry course how students do. These are the teachers who have to teach students who are relying on only a short course for information. Some degrees require high levels of math, including higher levels of Geometry. A full year of Geometry will provide a more solid foundation for that than a short summer course, which can make a big difference GPA-wise.

Check the required credits, too. I know from several of my students that the summer Geometry course for their school is only offered online. With online courses, students have to be very self-motivated and able to learn on their own. In other words: writing proofs and solving for measurements in complex figures. If you feel you must fight with the subject continuously, perhaps the best solution for you is to take Geometry in the school year. To answer this question, I feel like you have to ask yourself and really self-evaluate your own strength in math: if you are excelling and doing well in Algebra I which I assume you are in if you can take Geometry next year , then by all means take Geometry over the summer - it will only enhance and not detract from your application.

In order to concentrate more on Computer Science to begin with. But to lose sight of the geometry to the end. Pursue the thing that ties into what you're interested in—colleges like MIT and Stanford are going to care significantly more that you've demonstrated your interest in the subject you're applying for and worked to build up your skills in that over time than they will about one additional AP math course.
